Berkeley Homes – the so called ‘considerate constructor’ goes back on its word yet again
Without any notice or consultation with residents, Berkeley Homes placed around half a dozen portacabins just a few feet from residents’ windows at the rear of Warwick Building, around summer 2011. Initially there was a ‘smoking area’ where groups of workers would congregate and treat the residents to prolonged bouts of shouting and swearing. This smoking area was moved due to pressure of resident complaints but the incessant noise from seemingly unending drilling, hammering and door slamming continues.
Residents have been given a series of dates for the removal of these portacabins, none of which have been honoured. They were originally told by Mr Richard Harbard (the site manager working for Peverel / Consort) that these would be packed up by October 2011; when residents queried why they were still there (in February 2012) Richard informed them that they would be there till May / June (2012) . After complaints to Wandsworth Council and Berkeley Homes we were told that the portacabins would be there until December 2012.
In correspondence received by Berkeley Homes on 12th December 2012, they now state that the portacabins will be there till ‘Mid-February (2013)’
Berkeley Homes does not have a formal complaints process (I am not surprised because that would require a large full time staff) and hilariously considers itself to be a ‘considerate constructor’.
