Wandsworth Council finds Berkeley Homes in breech of planning law at Chelsea Bridge Wharf

Berkeley Homes have been notified by Wandsworth Council that the opening of depots on Sopwith Way is an unauthorised change of use (i.e. it does not have planning permission and so is in breech of planing law). The letter to Berkeley Homes, dated 2nd August 2016, requires Berkeley Homes to shut down the depots or to submit a retrospective planning application within 28 days

Sopwith Way – Massive Increase in Traffic and Worse to Come!

Following the decision of Berkeley Homes and Battersea Power Station Development Company to resurface Sopwith Way, remove the speed humps and open it up to all traffic there has been a massive increase in traffic along this narrow service road which runs within metres of many apartments at Chelsea Bridge Wharf. The traffic has come from HGVs waiting to access the Vista development site at the junction of Sopwith Way and Queenstown Road and from general traffic from the extremely busy Queenstown Road which are looking for a cut through to the Battersea Power Station site or for somewhere convenient to turn around to avoid going into the congestion charge zone.

Battersea Power Station Community Forum – January minutes

Four subsidiary businesses of Real Estate Opportunities (REO), an Irish-based group that has a majority stake in the site, have gone into administration (bankrupt in plain language). The administrator (Ernst & Young) is trying to find a new developer for the site, interested parties included Malaysian property firm SP Setia (this now seems to have fallen through after their offer was rejected), Berkeley Homes (owners of Chelsea Bridge Wharf), Development Securities, and Chelsea Football Club. It seems that plans for the Northern Line extension are NOT effected by the REO companies going into administration and work is likely to commence in 2014, extending the northern line from Kennington, to Nine Elms and terminating in the vicinity of Battersea Power Station.
